Blog Challenge Day 7

Image
Welcome back everybody! I know you have been dying for the revival of the 31 Day Challenge. In case you did not read the last post, I explained how I will be moving from the old challenge to this new one I put together last week. Since I was already a week into the last one, I took the six prompts I had completed and wrote them into this challenge. Therefore, I will be starting on day 7. Regardless of our futile attempts to be less materialistic, everyone has dreamed of a luxurious lifestyle but never having to work again. We sit on our outdated couches and watch "My Lottery Dream Home" and critique the choices of the people living our wildest fantasy. Everyone's first instinct when they consider this mundane conversation starter is to reply that they would buy a better house. Do you not have a home now? Is it not filled with furniture and knickknacks? What I think to be the most rewarding part about lottery winnings is not what I can buy but what I can get rid of....

The New and Improved 31 Day Challenge!

Image
When it comes to self discovery, everything should be personalized to fit your needs, especially your prompts. Therefore, I have ditched the old 31 Day Blog Challenge and created my own. Some of the prompts I made up, some are mixed and matched from various other blogs. I tried to keep in mind that this is a challenge after all, and thus picked prompts that were appealing and thought provoking. If you are interested in following this challenge, I understand seeing prompts you cannot relate to. Luckily, all can be adjusted easily. For instance, you may not be a fan of amusement parks. Instead, write about your favorite spots to spend a weekend or vacation. You could even design your own amusement park, centered around you. Kinda like Dollywood but with less hairspray. For day nine, I will be using either The Story Shack or Plot Generator . Some tips if you're looking to start a blog  Don't get too caught up in how your blog looks. Write first, design later.  Giv...

Day 6 of 31 Day Blog Challenge: Looking Beyond The Top 3

Image
Below is my actual reaction to reading today's prompt. Credit to Giphy The following is the Google search I entered after attempting to write today's post. I wouldn't say I don't have strong personality traits. It just is not something I have ever sat around thinking about. When deciding your personality traits, it's important to consider which version of you is being analyzed. For instance, I'm constantly joking and annoying my parents, but to my colleagues I am professional and dedicated. To those of you reading who know me as one way or another, I'm sure you find one of these statements to be humorous. What I am going to attempt not to do is pick my favorite version of me. Arguably, I would prefer to ride carts through Walmart than to devote myself to hours of accounting homework. Perhaps this means I more resemble the former,  but wouldn't we all? I believe the trick to this prompt is finding the greatest common factors betwe...

Fan Friday: "I'd be lost without my Boswell."

Image
Although this post is mainly for myself and for fun, you don't have to be a Sherlock Holmes mega-fan to find this post interesting. Today, you are John Watson. Edward Hardwicke as Dr. John H. Watson in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Anyone who knows me knows I am not a normal fan. If I like something, I love it. For a twenty-year-old, this is majorly embarrassing but a cross I must bear. It may also be the cause of why my list of friends consistently grows shorter each year and I find myself single. Regardless of your fan status, we can all stand to step away from reality and look into the mind of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The mystery Sherlock Holmes has been solving? You. Congratulations! You are a former member of the British army and an esteemed medical professional. Unfortunately, you have been shot and have returned home to London but are struggling to find affordable housing on an army pension. Luckily for you, you have a friend of a friend with the same issue. W...

Day 5 of 31 Day Blog Challenge: Separating Guilt from Pleasure

Image
I'm only on day five, but I feel like I have been doing this challenge for weeks. Luckily, I have been planning ahead and I think we're heading out of the stereotypical prompt rut. I have been procrastinating this post all day. I made some benches with my dad earlier and then took a nap while watching HGTV. I don't even think I made it to the final renovation reveal. I am glad it's spring break because I doubt even my professors could have motivated me to be productive today. For a few years, I had this self rule that I was not allowed to do anything in my spare unless it was making me into a better person. For instance, I would tell myself if I had time to watch TV, I had time to take a run. Of course, I accidentally indulged every now and then or told myself that examining the show's plot would make me a better writer. Later, I would find myself rolling in self pity and punishing my gluttonous acts. I do admit that this obsessive behavior, as inhuman and m...

Day 4 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge and a New Challenge for You!

Image
Before we get started, I wanted to say a quick thank you to my readers! I have received nothing but positive responses. I truly started this blog on a whim and thought that it was going to be read by only my parents. After some encouragement from my mom, I posted it on Facebook. When I logged on to write this post, my second day of the blog challenge was at 100 views. Thank you all for showing me so much support! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to leave them below or on any of my social media pages. When I saw today's blog prompt, I audibly groaned. Now that I look at the rest of the prompts, I may regret choosing this challenge. In my opinion, a lot of these are stereotypical and dull. Perhaps, that's the challenge of it. I have a mind that lingers in the past much longer than it should. My thoughts are the grand champions of negativity. I'm not at all saying I had a bad childhood. I was a fortunate child with wise parents and a supportive older sis...

Day 3 of the 31 Day Blog Challenge

Image
Obviously, I don't have a business. I hope to one day but for now, I have this blog. Therefore, I will be explaining the meaning of my blog title. If you're here, you most likely know I have a chihuahua named Goldie. Hardly a conversation passes where I do not mention her. Nonetheless, I think it is time for Goldie's character backstory. In the fall of 2016, I began college at East Tennessee State University. To put it simply, I was miserable. I was studying biology under the absurd notion that I was to be a vet someday. I learned quickly that chemistry was not a friend of mine. One of the classes you are required to take during your first semester at ETSU is referred to as ETSU 2020. Basically, it's a "welcome to college" course that teaches you how to survive the cold streets of campus. When you are studying a medical profession, they substitute this class for another similar course that is more centered around building your resume and telling yo...

Day 2 of the 31 Day Blogging Challenge and My Challenge to You!

Image
I'm going to be honest with you. I don't feel like doing this tonight. That's why I'm glad I did this challenge. Accountability is key! Make sure to participate with me in the comments! My challenge for you is below. So here is 20 facts about me... 1) I am an unashamed country music fan. I have yet to get into today's country but I can sing 80s and 90s classics with you all day. As a country music fan, I love Nashville. This was taken before a Garth Brooks concert! 2) I was very involved in high school. I loved joining clubs and attending school events. I was a bass drum and saxophone player, a techie in drama, and a lock in rugby. I also presided over the Tri-M Musical Honors Society. I am not embarrassed to say I miss high school and the fulfillment of my days. Here I am on the rugby field with two amazing players. Both of these girls play collegiate rugby now! 3) For a short time in high school I dabbled in Crossfit. I loved it more than a...

31 Day Blogging Challenge: Day 1

Image
Happy Sunday everyone! I'm new to blogging but have been enjoying the writing that goes into it. I doubt I will get many, if any readers, but I see it as a way to build my talent and my writing portfolio. Also, why not? I wanted to write more than just my weekly horseback riding experience so I turned to the center of creativity, Pinterest. There, I found this handy challenge courtesy of  Honey I'm Holmes . I'll edit the days to fit my needs. Day 1: If you're reading this, you probably already know me (Hi, mom and dad!), but I feel one of the excitements of life is getting to know yourself. In our perception, we are another person than what the world sees. Sometimes we overly enhance our strengths or are in denial of our weaknesses. Other times, we under appreciate what can empower us beyond our fears. Therefore, as I move through these 31 days, I encourage you to answer these questions yourself, whether it be on paper or in meditation. Perhaps, through time, ...

Learning to Ride Week 4: Lacing Up Sneaker

Image
I pulled into the gravel around 5:58 and parked in front of a horse trailer. I normally liked to be about ten minutes early to my commitments, but with Chrystal having a full day of lessons, it seemed more rude to interrupt her prior students than to be late. I exchanged my Chacos for my dusty Justin boots and retrieved my helmet from my trunk. The window of the crossover next to me rolled down to reveal a middle-aged woman, presumably a parent of one of the younger riders. "Chrystal told me to tell you she's on a trail ride and she'll be back soon." I thanked the woman for the information and dodged the mud as I walked through the metal barn doors. With the horse owners around me brushing coats, cleaning hooves and stocking manure wheelbarrows, I learned quickly that it's awkward to be idle in a horse barn. Since Chrystal was still out on the trail and I was still new among the community of horse owners, I reminded myself to keep my hands at my side and gave ...
